LOS ANGELES, CA, March 10, 2011 – The Avalon International Film Festival (AIFF) is thrilled to announce its debut taking place on Catalina Island, March 25-27, 2011. Overlooking beautiful and historic Avalon Bay on Catalina Island, the iconic Catalina Casino Theatre & Ballroom will be the venue for the first annual Avalon International Film Festival. AIFF will spotlight works from around the world created by both amateur and professional filmmakers in categories ranging from short animations to international feature films and documentaries.

This landmark event will bring together an ensemble of notable industry professionals including Tom DeSanto (XMEN, TRANSFORMERS), Mark Fergus (IRON MAN, Academy Award Nominee for CHILDREN OF MEN), Roger Allers (Academy Award winning director for THE LION KING), Adam Rosenfelt (WAITING, DOWN IN THE VALLEY, MR. BROOKS), Jay Jackson (THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, THE LITTLE MERMAID), Carlos Baena (TOY STORY 3, WALL-E, FINDING NEMO), and many more for a series of producing, directing, writing, animation and cinema workshops and panels. AIFF will be the home to the official World Premier of Heather Morris’ (GLEE, FIRED UP) directorial debut film, THE ELEVATOR, in addition to a world-class variety of more than 60 short and feature films. Festival goers will not want to miss entertainment veterans in TERRI starring John C. Reilly and newcomer Jacob Wysocki, and SKATELAND starring Ashley Green from TWILIGHT. Screenings will take place throughout the weekend featuring a collection of short films, animation, international shorts, narrative features and more. This three-day festival will be an ideal networking opportunity for filmmakers, celebrities, producers and other industry executives from around the world.

“Catalina Island has a rich cinematic history having served as a location for many film productions. Dave Matthews at Atlantic City Music Festival

Atlantic City music festival scheduled for June

There will be an Atlantic City music festival this June, lending credence to the rumors that the New Jersey casino town will host one of this year’s Dave Matthews Band festivals.

Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford announced the news earlier this month, according to Atlantic City Weekly. He did not confirm that DMB would headline the Atlantic City music festival, but he did say it’s being put on by a major promoter and will feature big-name jam bands.

The Atlantic City music festival will take place at Bader Field, a defunct airport on the outskirts of town.

In related news, rumors began circulating yesterday that Phish will be on the bill for this year’s DMB festivals. Mayor Langford’s comments about the Atlantic City music festival make it sound possible the rumors could be true, because DMB and Phish are widely regarded as the two biggest jam bands in the country (even though some fans argue DMB isn’t a jam band).

The Atlantic City Film Festival is considering a Short Film Festival for April 2011. “Short films in Atlantic City are an exciting feature”, says festival director. “We actually had a huge festival at the Showboat casino, with an Black Tie Awards Gala in a Ballroom, which is now the House of Blues (HOB).

The event was 7 days long and had short films, international films, documentaries and animation. Over 30 awards were given out that year.

Short films are the gateway for most filmmakers who want to showcase their talent without having to take the risk of making a full feature film. This is why an Atlantic City short film festival would do well under the Atlantic City Film Festival.
